Although finger fracture is a minor problem it may lead to a major problem id not treated properly. The normal bones of a hand, lines up properly and allows precise movement and manual dexterity with thumb and fingers. The improper alignment of the hand is caused when a bone in the finger gets fractured If not treated properly it may lead to painful and stiff fingers for a long time. All sports men may get fractured fingers but mainly baseball, basket ball and contact sports men are most probable to get finger fracture.
Swelling of the fingers, tenderness and pain in the finger, pain is felt in hand when the finger is tapped when it is straight, unable to move completely and deformity of hand are some of the symptoms which show that the finger is fractured. The first thing to do is to see a doctor who will take and x-Ray and decide what to do. The finger might be straightened with a splint or cast so that it will not be affected further until it heals. Sometimes the doctors splint both the finger affected and the one next to it in order to support it. The splint is kept for three weeks. The healing can be checked by taking X Rays. The hand be used as advised by the therapist or physician. Rehabilitation exercises should be done in order to reduce the swelling and stiffness in the finger.
